As the title says I'm totally new to the game. I've quite some experience with MMOs but none with Lineage. It has been a game I've always wanted to play but never quite managed mainly due to lack of info and unreliable servers. This one looks very promising though. I've looked around a bit and found the compendium which seems to have most of the info a new player might need and I'm currently debating whether I should start with a knight or a wizard. 

My question is, is it possible for a completely new player to 'learn' the game and approach end-game within a reasonable timeframe?

Any other suggestion is welcome!

Welcome to the game and server! We've worked hard to provide a website that is competant and assist with new players, but we still have a ways to go! The community is great for helping new players, especially on discord. You can very easily learn the game and grind to level up to get to end game and start bossing very quickly. I'd say you could get to level 72+ in a couple of weeks which is about where you need to be to really start hunting endgame bosses.

I am very much out of the loop when it comes to game-play but if you hop on Discord, the players there will gladly help answer questions faster as you have them. 

Personally I think mage will be better to start.....you can make adena a lot easier than if you started with a knight...once you can afford better gear then you can start your knight or any other class you might like.

 

If you never played lineage before just be prepared for being pk'd in almost any area. Once you leave the safety of town you are fair game.

This is the most stable server you can get for Lineage1 atm. it is not too hard to learn the game but be careful of the amount of troll in-game. if you have questions, feel free to ask in discord as you can get more honor answer there. 

 

just to warn you, Lineage is a VERY heavy grinding game. So it depend on what you mean by "reasonable timeframe". example: the very endgame weapon (fid), you need a team of high level and grinding the bosses for few months.

I agree with vicky here... be ready for time in game. Note you will be killed or at least attacked often in end game areas. End game gear can take months or hours depending on RNG. in over 700-800 items blown I still haven't made 1 of my armor pieces. In 5 weapons I finished a +10.... it's all just luck so remember that... If you feel like your luck isn't great then sell what you gather and just buy the gear you'd like or make a ton of medium +7-8 gear and trade for +9/10.

The important part is learning that you really don't have anyone to trust but your own "team" Every bp has spies every bp has trolls lol.... find some people you agree with, test their trust and stay with em lineage alliances flow. And always hit CripWalk bp 100% of the time. WELCOME TO THE SERVER! (Ps, feel free to ask for buffs in town to help you hunting... a lot of us will buff you =))

I would say it is pretty unrealistic for a new player to get to level 72 in a few weeks, just my opinion.  I'll have to trust the comments above that say you can get good info on Discord as I don't/can't use discord and rely on the forum and global chat to find answers to questions.  Players in game are often unresponsive to questions, unfortunately, so definitely go the Discord route.

Even if it takes you months to level up to end game content though, keep in mind this is a 10 year server, so a drop in the bucket comparatively.
